\nThis prayer sheet<\/span> is inspired by the May 2021 theme of the month, Holy, and the season of Pentecost.<\/p>\n

The psalmist says, <\/p>\n

I love the Lord because he hears my voice
\n      and my prayer for mercy.
\nBecause he bends down to listen,
\n      I will pray as long as I have breath! <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A. CALL TO WORSHIP<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind,
\nand it filled the entire house where they were sitting.\u201d (Acts 2:2<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n

A wind breathes among us,
\ncalling us to gather
\nin the name of the Holy One.<\/p>\n

A fire burns within us,
\ncalling us to service,
\ncalling us to prayer. <\/strong><\/p>\n

A spirit moves around us,
\ncalling us to turn in joy
\ntoward the sorrows of the world.<\/p>\n

Burning, breathing,
\nSpirit of Compassion,
\nwe bring our lives to you. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

… We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.<\/p>\n

Lord, we would grow with you
\nand bring forth fruit
\nthat is pleasing to you,
\nfed by your living water,
\ngiving sustenance to others.

E. BREATH PRAYER<\/strong>
\n(inspired by Romans 8:22-27<\/a>)<\/em><\/p>\n

The Apostle Paul tells us that the Spirit of God prays for us \u201cwith sighs too deep for words\u201d. Through the Life-Giving Breath of God, we are given all that we need. Let us breathe deeply \u2013 inhaling the good gifts that God provides, and exhaling all of the things that we need to release.<\/p>\n

Let us breathe in strength.
\n(Pause for breath\u2026)<\/em>
\nAnd, let us exhale our exhaustion.
\n(Pause for breath\u2026)<\/em><\/p>\n

Let us breathe in freedom.
\n(Pause for breath\u2026)<\/em>
\nAnd, let us exhale all that holds us back.

Let us breathe in a new sense of direction.

\nAnd, let us exhale the paths we no longer want to use.

Holy Spirit, let us feel the mighty rush of your presence in this place. Blow away our fears and worries, and help us to breathe in your gifts of new life. <\/p>\n

So now we leave this space of worship
\nand while so much of the road ahead is uncertain,
\nthe path constantly changing,
\nwe know some things that are as solid
\nand sure as the ground beneath our feet,
\nand the sky above our heads.<\/p>\n

We know God is love.
\nWe know Christ\u2019s light endures.<\/p>\n

We know the Holy Spirit is there,
\nfound in the space between all things,
\ncloser to us than our next breath,
\nbinding us to each other, until we meet we again.<\/p>\n
