Appealing to God to hear and answer<\/strong> is a recurring theme in the Scriptures. Here are a few examples from the Psalms:<\/p>\n

Psalm 27:7<\/a>
\nHear<\/strong> my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer<\/strong> me.<\/p>\n

Psalm 55:2<\/a>
\n… hear<\/strong> me and answer<\/strong> me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught<\/p>\n

Psalm 86:1<\/a>
\nHear<\/strong> me, Lord, and answer<\/strong> me, for I am poor and needy.<\/p>\n

This Prayer of Intercession draws heavily on this tradition, most noteably in the repetition of the words, “Gracious God, hear our prayer, and in Your love, answer.<\/strong>“<\/div>\n

Prayer of Intercession<\/h3>\n

based on Exodus 3:1-15<\/a>, Romans 12:19-21<\/a>, Matthew 16:21-28<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

 
\nGracious God,
\nIn love You created us,
\nand in love You sustain us, day after day.
\nSo it is with confidence that we bring our prayers to You,
\nknowing that You hear us, and will respond.<\/p>\n

We pray for the world around us,
\nfor the many who continue to suffer and call out for help:
\n      for those without enough to eat;
\n      for those caught up in violence and political uprisings;
\n      for those picking up the pieces after a natural disaster;
\n      for those desperate to find work to support their families.<\/p>\n

Gracious God, hear our prayer,
\nand in Your love, answer.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

We also pray for family and friends who are suffering:
\n      those struggling physically or emotionally,
\n      those working to overcome mental illness;
\n      those facing challenges at home or at work;
\n      those grieving the death of a loved one.<\/p>\n

Gracious God, hear our prayer,
\nand in Your love, answer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God, You have called us to pray for our enemies;
\nto bless, rather than curse, those who deliberately seek to harm us.
\nWe bring their names before You now\u2014
\n      those who have hurt us, physically or emotionally;
\n      those who have stolen from us,
\n            or cheated us of what was rightfully ours;
\n      those who have spread rumours about us,
\n            or turned our friends against us.
\nWe ask You to bless them.
\nOpen our hearts so that we may see them as You see them,
\nand be able to respond to them with Your love.<\/p>\n

Gracious God, hear our prayer,
\nand in Your love, answer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We pray for Your church around the world,
\nthat it would be a living demonstration of Your coming kingdom:
\n      offering hospitality to all,
\n      ready to help in times of need,
\n      showing love to friends and enemies alike,
\n      seeking to live in peace with all.<\/p>\n

Gracious God, hear our prayer,
\nand in Your love, answer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God, we praise You for Your faithful love,
\nand for the mercy You have shown toward us.
\nOpen our eyes to recognize Your presence in our lives.
\nGive us grace to hear Your call,
\nand courage to follow without hesitation,
\nknowing that Your way is the only way that leads to life.<\/p>\n

In the name of Jesus, our Saviour and Lord,
