Back story<\/h3>\n

I shared a version of this poem during the Away Day I led at the Scots Kirk, Lausanne earlier this month. It was so well received the group decided to include it in our presentation during Sunday worship the following day.<\/p>\n

I’ve since made contact with the author, Wendy Videlock<\/strong>, and got permission to share it with you too. (Thanks, Erica, for giving me the idea.)<\/p>\n

\nOn Hearing Yet Another Someone Say
\nthey Haven\u2019t Got a Creative Bone in their Body<\/strong><\/p>\n

And yet you\u2019ve spent your entire life
\ncreating \u2014 you\u2019ve spent your life
\n                 making \u2014
\nmaking dinner, making drinks,
\nmaking fire, making
\nthe cut, making amends,
\nmaking fun,
\nmaking the team,
\nmaking money, making
\nlemonade<\/p>\n

of lemons, yes \u2014 we spend
\nour whole lives making \u2014
\nmaking decisions,
\nmaking peace,
\nmaking war,
\nmaking mistakes,
\nmaking a call, making some
\n       kind
\n               of sense of it all \u2014<\/p>\n

we can\u2019t help but spend our lives making,
\n       making music, making choices,
\nmaking strides, making up <\/p>\n

for lost time,
\nmaking hay, making haste,
\nmaking promises and progress,
\nmaking love, making
\nhistory, making
\npredictions, making
\nproductions, making
\nlight <\/p>\n

of the situation, <\/p>\n

we make space,
\nwe make friends,
\nwe make magic, we make trouble,
\nwe make mountains<\/p>\n

out of molehills, <\/p>\n

we make tea,
\nwe make tracks,
\nwe make use, we make do,
\nwe make way, we make curds,
\nwe make words, we make waves
\nwe make meaning \u2014
\n       we are born <\/p>\n

into this world and are made<\/p>\n
