Prayer of Lament<\/h3>\n

To the One who calls us Beloved,
\nwe bring hurting hearts to you this morning,
\nour fearfulness, and our worry.
\nOur anger.<\/p>\n

Our world is not as it should be.<\/p>\n

The ones with power make decisions for their own benefit.
\nIn a show of might, they flirt with war and destruction
\nbut the most desperate among us are left to fend for themselves.<\/p>\n

The proud and the comfortable say,
\n\u201cEverything is fine. There is no problem.\u201d
\nBut those without privilege know better.
\nThey hunger, they weep, they bleed.
\nThey wait for your justice to vindicate them \u2013 before it\u2019s too late!<\/p>\n

In a world where hate is a virtue and exclusion a way of life
\nit is hard to hold on to what unites.
\nIt is tough to find common ground.
\nOur humanity is lost in the scuffle.<\/p>\n

Those of us who wish for peace forget how to make it
\nor where to begin
\nand fall into hopelessness, cynicism or despair.
\nWe too begin to feel powerless
\nin the face of widespread suffering and systemic evil.<\/p>\n

Even our planet seems ready to crack
\nunder the pressure of forces that are beyond us.<\/p>\n

Earthquakes, hurricanes, wildfires, volcanoes.
\nNature groans \u2013 and with it, your people.<\/p>\n

Come, Lord Jesus, we pray.<\/p>\n

When will you come?
\nWhen will you make right?<\/p>\n

We are not strong enough, not wise enough, not good enough
\nto make peace, to bring healing.<\/p>\n

But you are,<\/p>\n

You are the one who planted peace in our hearts.
\nYou are the one who will make it come to pass.<\/p>\n

Come, Lord Jesus.<\/p>\n

Strengthen the bruised reed.
\nMake weapons into ploughshares.
\nComfort the weary and heavy-laden.
\nMake a home for the homeless.
\nStill the waters.
\nCalm the storm.<\/p>\n

Come, Lord Jesus, you and your kingdom,
\nCome.
\nOn earth as it is in heaven.
\nYour will be done.
\nAmen.
