Faithful cross, O tree of beauty,

\nNot a grove on earth can show us
\nleaf and flow’r and fruit so fine.
\nBearer of our Savior’s body,
\ntree of life, salvation’s sign!<\/p>\n

Cross of pain transformed to gladness
\never green and sheltering tree,
\nsymbol once of shame and bondage,
\nnow the sign that we are free!
\nCross of splendor, cross of glory,
\ncross of love’s great victory!<\/p>\n

Christians, chant your grateful praises
\nfor the tree of triumph won,
\nproof of overflowing mercy
\nand redemption in the Son.
