A Poem<\/h3>\n

 
\nWHEN I AM AMONG THE TREES<\/strong>
\nby Mary Oliver<\/em><\/p>\n

When I am among the trees,
\nespecially the willows and the honey locust,
\nequally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
\nthey give off such hints of gladness.
\nI would almost say that they save me, and daily.<\/p>\n

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
\nin which I have goodness, and discernment,
\nand never hurry through the world
\n       but walk slowly, and bow often.<\/p>\n

Around me the trees stir in their leaves
\nand call out, “Stay awhile.”
\nThe light flows from their branches.<\/p>\n

And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,
\n“and you too have come
\ninto the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
\nwith light, and to shine.”
