\nThis prayer sheet<\/span> is inspired by the July 2017 theme of the month: Water. <\/p>\n

The prayers reference different aspects of water we find in the Bible, to help us connect with the giver of this gift that is so vital to our health and well-being, and to pray for those who thirst.<\/p>\n

\"Come<\/p>\n

\n

A. CALL TO WORSHIP<\/strong>
\n(inspired by Isaiah 55:1-3)<\/em><\/p>\n

Come to the water, all you who thirst,
\ncome drink deeply from the river of life.<\/p>\n

Come to the water, all you who are weary,
\ncome rest in the quiet pools of God\u2019s love.<\/p>\n

Come to the water, all you who long for justice,
\ncome be renewed in God\u2019s ever-flowing stream.<\/p>\n

For God is here among us,
\nwashing away the dust and grime of our lives,
\nand pouring out the Spirit on all who thirst.
\nLet us worship God together.<\/p>\n\n

B. PRAYER OF CONFESSION<\/strong>
\n(inspired by John 4:4-42)<\/em><\/p>\n

God of living water,
\nwe confess the dryness of our lives:<\/strong><\/p>\n

the brittle words we have thought and spoken . . .
\nthe relationships that are crumbling . . .
\nthe arid perspective that centres on self . . .
\nthe cracked and jagged edges of our world . . .<\/p>\n

Hear our confession, O Christ,
\nand rain down your mercy upon us.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

C. ASSURANCE OF PARDON<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jesus says, \u201cThose who drink of the water that I will give them will never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of living water.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

D. READING<\/strong><\/p>\n

E. LITANY: GOD OF THE WATERS<\/strong>
\n(inspired by Mark 1:4-11, Luke 3:21-22)<\/em><\/p>\n

God of the waters – Water of birth,
\nmoving us from safety into the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God of the waters – Water of connection,
\nengaging the playful Spirit,
\nthe passionate Christ,
\nthe challenging God.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God of the waters – Water of life,
\nsustaining, quenching, cleansing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God of the waters – Water of trouble,
\njourneying us from here to there,
\nfrom the known to the unknown.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God of the waters.
\nBirth us. Connect us.
\nLive in us. Trouble us.
\nAmen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

F. PRAYER OF INTERCESSION<\/strong>
\n(inspired by Psalm 42)<\/em><\/p>\n

Eternal defender of the poor and sad,
\nhear our prayers for all who suffer.<\/p>\n

For those who are refugees,
\nexiles from home,
\nbecause of the cruelty of enemies
\nor the vagaries of nature.<\/p>\n

For those who are starving
\nand whose tears are their only food.<\/p>\n

For those who are desperate for a drink,
\nand who thirst for life-giving water.<\/p>\n

For those who are sad and troubled,
\nwhose hearts break for want of hope.<\/p>\n

For those whose faith is weak,
\nwho feel that God has abandoned them.<\/p>\n

Protector of the weak,
\nbe with all who need you today.
\nMay they know that they are not forgotten.<\/p>\n

Amen.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n

G. LET US PRAY<\/strong>
\n\u201cThe poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I the Lord will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.\u201d<\/em> (Isaiah 41:17)<\/p>\n

Let us pray \u2026<\/p>\n\n

H. BENEDICTION<\/strong>
\n(based on Matthew 14:22-33)<\/em><\/p>\n

Friends, Jesus calls us to step out on to the water with him,
\nto leave the safety of our boats, and to walk toward Him in faith,
\njoining Him in the work He is already doing in our world.<\/p>\n

And when the wind and waves get high and threaten to overwhelm us,
\nwe remember His words: \u201cDon\u2019t be afraid. Take courage. I am here.\u201d<\/p>\n

So let\u2019s go with faith, to follow where Jesus leads,
\nconfident that His love and presence go with us.<\/p>\n\n
