\nThe theme I’ve selected for August 2017 is “on a journey”.<\/p>\n

The word \u201cjourney\u201d does not appear much in the psalms, if ever. \u201cWay\u201d or \u201cways\u201d is very common, though. Especially in Psalm 119<\/a>, an extended meditation on living in right relationship with God, walking in his ways: \u201cBlessed are those whose ways<\/u> are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD.\u201d (Psalm 119:1)<\/p>\n

Invariably the word \u201cway\u201d expresses more than a particular road, path, or track that you use to go from one place to another. Instead, it reflects the outcome of multiple journeys<\/strong> that have somehow become internalized into a \u201cway of life\u201d (Psalm 84:11<\/a>, Proverbs 28:18<\/a>, Jeremiah 21:8<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Here selected verses from Psalm 143 – a prayer for help and direction on \u201cthe way I should go\u201d to find relief and release in tricky situations. Sometimes relief comes from unexpected quarters, like in the parable of the \u201cGood Samaritan\u201d (Luke 10:25-37<\/a>).<\/p>\n

1 LORD, hear my prayer,
\nlisten to my cry for mercy;
\nin your faithfulness and righteousness
\ncome to my relief.<\/p>\n

7 Answer me quickly, LORD;
\nmy spirit fails.
\nDo not hide your face from me
\nor I will be like those who go down to the pit<\/u>.<\/p>\n

8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
\nfor I have put my trust in you.
\nShow me the way I should go<\/u>,
\nfor to you I entrust my life.<\/p>\n

9 Rescue me from my enemies, LORD,
\nfor I hide myself in you.<\/p>\n

10 Teach me to do your will,
\nfor you are my God;
\nmay your good Spirit
\nlead me on level ground<\/u>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
