On the eve of Ash Wednesday and a new season of Lent, here is a “wild” poem by Joel McKerrow<\/strong> that I found on the Northumbria Community<\/a> website.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As the tamed horse
\nstill hears the call of her wild brothers
\nand as the farmed goose flaps hopeful wings
\nas his sisters fly overhead,
\nso too, perhaps,
\nthe wild ones amongst us
\nare our only hope in calling us back
\nto our true nature.
\nWild ones
\nwho have not been turned to stone
\nby the far-reaching grasp of the empire
\nand its programme of consumer sedation,
\nthe killing of imagination.
\nWhere, my friends,
\nhave the wild ones gone?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
