\nWhile he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.<\/p>\n

Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, \u201cWhy this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year\u2019s wages and the money given to the poor.\u201d And they rebuked her harshly.<\/p>\n

\u201cLeave her alone,\u201d said Jesus. \u201cWhy are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nAll who see me mock me;
\nthey hurl insults, shaking their heads.<\/p>\n

\nTherefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,<\/p>\n\n

Jesus said,
\n\u201cCan you be baptised with the baptism I must be baptised with?\u201d<\/p>\n

Lord, we seek to feel your sadness,
\nwe seek to share your tears.<\/strong><\/p>\n

O Christ, help us to become one with you.
\nIn your defenceless love,
\n      teach us the grace of self-offering.
\nIn your weakness,
\n      teach us the grace of acceptance.
\nIn your betrayal,
\n      teach us the grace of forgiveness.
\nIn your testings,
\n      teach us the grace of believing.<\/p>\n
