The body of Christ<\/em> is one of many metaphors used in the New Testament to describe the community of believers. Here is an all-age song I wrote in the mid-90’s incorporating some of these images.<\/p>\n

Song<\/h3>\n

\n <\/p>\n

We are a body, we are a family,
\nwe are the church of Jesus Christ.
\nWe are a body, we are a family,
\nwe are the church of Jesus Christ.
\nWe are living stones,
\nwe are a temple for God’s Spirit lives in us.
\nHallelujah!  God has made us the church!
\n <\/p>\n\n

Call to worship: Here we are<\/h3>\n

inspired by 1 Samuel 3<\/em><\/p>\n

God whispers to each of us:
\nyou are my beloved,
\ncreated in love for love.
\nMy spirit answers,
\nHere I am, Lord.
\nSpeak to me anew.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God breathes on us the Holy Spirit,
\nknitting many members into one body,
\nthe body of Christ.
\nTogether we answer,
\nHere we are Lord.
\nCome, Holy Spirit.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God has yet more vision for the people.
\nWho will work for God to extend God’s kingdom
\ninto our hurting world?
\nHere we are Lord.
\nEmpower us for your work.<\/strong><\/p>\n

God calls the small, and helps them do great things.
\nGod calls the weak, and reveals their hidden gifts.
\nGod calls the rejected, and opens their eyes to their worth.
\nHere we are Lord, humble and waiting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Then let us gather, old and young, small and great,
\nto dream God’s dreams,
\nreceive God’s power,
\nand do God’s deeds.
\nHere we are Lord.
\nShine the light of your love on us.
\nKindle your Spirit within us.
\nWork your redeeming will in us,
\nthat all the world may be one
\nthrough the power of your love. Amen.<\/strong><\/p>\n
