I love this passage from Paul’s first letter to Timothy. It’s peppered with good, true and beautiful words like “promise”, “value” and “deserves”. To accompany the reading, a blessing by Jan Richardson<\/strong>, inspired by the story of the Roman Centurion who demonstrates uncommon trust in Jesus.<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives\u2019 tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. This is a trustworthy saying<\/u> that deserves full acceptance. That is why we labour and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all people, and especially of those who believe.<\/div>\n

Only Speak the Word<\/h3>\n

A blessing inspired by Luke 7:1-10<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

You might not have guessed
\nhow far this blessing
\ncan travel.<\/p>\n

But it is worth believing
\nthat it is built
\nfor crossing distances
\nfor stretching itself
\nfor making its way
\nwithout hesitation
\nto the place
\nwhere it is needed most.<\/p>\n

Only believe\u2014
\nor, failing this,
\nlatch onto someone
\nwho will believe
\nfor you,
\nwho will ask
\non your behalf,
\nwho will plead
\nfor this blessing
\nto come.<\/p>\n

Trust one who knows
\nwith a certainty
\nfierce as fire
\nthat this blessing
\nwill find its way
\nto you,
\nthat it will treat
\nmiles and time
\nas nothing,
\nthat it will push through
\neach boundary,
\ncross every border,
\npass through
\nall obstacles
\nto reach you.<\/p>\n

Trust that these words
\nknow the path
\ninto your anguish,
\nthat in your ache
\nthey will become balm
\nand in your pain
\nthey will become soothing.
\nTrust that they will be for you
\na sweet
