I recently bought a book of poetry by Bonnie Thurston<\/strong> called, Practicing Silence<\/em>, and have been dipping into it as a kind of spiritual practice. You have to slow down and savour the words. You can’t rush it.<\/p>\n

Here’s the poem that inspired this month’s theme, “Healing”.<\/p>\n\n

Inside out<\/h3>\n

On the face of it
\nall appears well,
\nbut mostly wounds
\nare deep beyond reckoning.
\nAs in surgery
\nthe surface heals,
\nbut in subcutaneous depths
\nresides an awful, jagged maw
\ninto which one
\nmust eventually walk,
\nsit down, wait for what
\nonly waiting accomplishes:
\nvictory over restlessness
\nconquering the urge to control;
\nacceptance of utter helplessness
\ninviting help’s arrival.
\nWe are all healed
\nin passive voice
\nand from the inside out.<\/p>\n
