Irene, with props she made for the 2017 Good Friday service (Theme: “High and lifted up”)
My name is Irene Bom. I am an Ordained Local Minister (OLM) in the Church of Scotland, based in Rotterdam. Songwriting and “equipping the saints for ministry” (Eph 4:12) are two key aspects in my life and ministry. My website, www.irenebom.com/songwriter, features many of my songs for congregational use, including a setting of the Apostle’s Creed and songs for all ages.
Prompting and resourcing prayer
Part of my ministry is Presbytery-wide, serving the International Presbytery of the Church of Scotland as “(Creative) Worship and Prayer Promoter”. It’s my hope that this blog will be an inspiration and resource to our Presbytery and beyond.
Where prayer is concerned we’re all learners.
Ideally prayer is part of our daily practice, as an expression of our confidence in our Creator God who has recreated us by faith in Christ Jesus and has given us His Spirit to empower us to to pray “Your kingdom come, your will be done” and to play our part in making that happen.
I’ve always loved words, especially words that are multi-layered without being obscure. As a songwriter the psalms were my first inspiration: songbook, prayer book and God’s word, all rolled into one. As Christians it is our privilege to pray in the moment, in our own words, but also to find joy and inspiration in the prayers of others, both ancient and modern.
Above all, I hope the posts and pages on this website help you and me enter more fully into the adventure of a prayerful life.
Doxology
“To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy – to the only God our Saviour be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and for evermore! Amen.” (Jude 1:24-25)
