Prayer poem: You are right

a prayer poem inspired by Psalm 51:1-12  | psalm reading for the fifth Sunday in Lent, Year B

You are right

by Irene Bom

… you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.
(Psalm 51:4b)

You are right
what was I thinking?
O God, O God,
it’s true
I did a wicked thing

the sting of my twisted sin
breeds clinging, cloying shame
O God, O God
in your mercy
blot out this dark and dirty stain

You are right
scrub me clean
O God, O God
let not all be lost
create a new heart in me
